Change your server's RAM plan

The Resources tab does not exist on the free plan. A free server is fixed at its tier's RAM — there's nothing to resize, so the panel doesn't show the tab rather than showing a control that would only ever refuse you. Switch the server off the free plan first (the owner-only plan control at the top of the server page, separate from Settings, disabled while the server is running) if you want to change its size. The switch itself writes immediately, not on some future billing cycle — the Resources tab appears as soon as the switch lands and the page reflects it.

On a metered or flat server, Resources lets you change RAM in 2 GB steps, from 2 GB up to your account's ceiling (16 GB by default; higher if it's been raised for you). A modded or modpack server has a 4 GB floor. Picking a size fetches a live quote before anything changes — nothing is applied until you click Resize.

Metered vs. flat: how the price actually changes

TrueTick's metered plan is billed per GB-hour, metered every 60 seconds — resizing on metered doesn't prorate anything in either direction. The new size simply changes what future 60-second ticks bill against, starting whenever the resize takes effect.

Flat is different: it's billed once per calendar day (UTC), charged the first time the server runs that day. That day-long commitment is exactly why resizing a flat server needs its own rule, described below.

Resizing a flat server up

If the server hasn't run yet today, there's nothing to correct — the quote shows no extra charge, and the next time the day's charge is taken it's simply taken at the new size.

If the server has already run today (today's charge is already posted), an upsize charges the difference immediately, for the remaining time until UTC midnight, rounded down in your favor — the panel shows this before you confirm, as "Charged now for the rest of today: $X". If your balance can't cover it, the whole resize is refused rather than partially applied — the panel's error names the exact amount and tells you to top up first.

Resizing a flat server down

No refund for today: the panel says so plainly before you confirm — "No refund for today — tomorrow bills at the new size." The day you already paid for stays paid at the old (larger) size; the cheaper price starts tomorrow.

Applying the change

If the server is running, clicking Resize triggers one restart immediately — the confirmation dialog warns players are disconnected for about a minute. If it's asleep, nothing restarts right now; the new size is picked up the next time it starts or wakes. The confirmation dialog shows that same restart-warning line unconditionally, even when the server is asleep — there's no one to disconnect and nothing actually restarts in that case, so don't read it as a sign something unexpected is about to happen.

Troubleshooting

No Resources tab. You're on the free plan — see the note at the top. This isn't a hidden or broken control; free servers genuinely have no resize path.

"This node can't fit that size right now." The node your server lives on doesn't currently have room for the size you picked — try a smaller size, or contact support.

"insufficient balance… top up first" when you try to apply. Only relevant on a flat server upsizing on an already-charged day (see above) — the immediate top-up charge exceeds your balance. Top up, then retry.

"price changed… review and confirm again." Flat-only, and specifically about the immediate top-up charge: the amount you'd actually be charged now is higher than what the quote on screen showed — enough time passed between quoting and clicking Resize that the remaining fraction of the day (and so the prorated amount) moved. Pick the size again to get a fresh quote. This is a different message from "This node can't fit that size right now" (a capacity problem, not a price one) — don't conflate the two.

Modded/modpack server won't go below 4 GB. That floor is enforced platform-wide for modded cores and modpacks, not something this server specifically triggered.

Server is mid-transition. Resizing is refused while a server is starting or stopping — wait for it to settle into a stable state and try again.
